Almost exactly 25 years ago, in 1986, Senator Charles Grassley and Representative Howard Berman led efforts in Congress to amend the False Claims Act, including enhancements to the qui tam provisions to encourage whistleblowers to come forward with allegations of fraud.

TriWest Healthcare Alliance Corporation, a contractor to TRICARE Management Activity, has agreed to pay $10 million to resolve civil false claims allegations, the Justice Department announced today. Federal prosecutors have filed a complaint under the False Claims Act (FCA) against Bay Area Sleep Associates LLC, dba SomnoMedics LLC, and its owner, Edward Killmer Jr. The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, alleges that the defendants violated the FCA by knowingly submitting, or causing to be submitted, to the United States false claims for payments from multiple federal health care programs.
Novo Nordisk, Inc. has entered into a civil settlement agreement with the federal government in which it has agreed to pay the U.S. and several states $1.725 million to resolve allegations that the company caused false or fraudulent claims to be submitted to the Medicaid program in connection with its marketing of the diabetes drugs Novolin, Novolin 70/30, Novolog, and Novolog 70/30.
