My Mom, R. Allen Stanford, and Air Conditioning: Together In The Financial Fraud Law Blog?

My mother used to say that if she had been forced to make a choice, she would rather have had her central air conditioning than the furniture in her house. And she was living on Long Island at the time.

Well, accused Ponzi schemer R. Allen Stanford – spending his time since mid-June in a Texas jail cell – may very feel the same way.

Stanford’s lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, is asking the government to transfer him to another facility because “[f]or at least a week, during the hottest part of the summer, with outside temperatures of 100 degrees (38 Celsius) or more, the place where Allen Stanford is being held as a pretrial detainee has had no air conditioning and for part of that time was without power altogether."

U.S. District Judge David Hittner will make a decision on the request.

Enjoy your lunch, everybody.
