$1.25 Billion – That’s With A “B” – To Be Paid By Intel To Settle Advanced Micro Devices Charges
We wrote the other day about New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s charges against Intel, and included some of the email Cuomo says he is relying on to press his action. See http://www.financialfraudlaw.com/lawblog/bribery-and-coercion-intel-that%E2%80%99s-what-cuomo%E2%80%99s-complaint-charges/455 and http://www.financialfraudlaw.com/lawblog/e-mail-heart-cuomo%E2%80%99s-complaint-against-intel-%E2%80%93-and-here-are-some-examples/456.
Today, we learn that Intel has decided to pay $1.25 billion to settle antitrust and other litigation brought by Advanced Micro Devices. The story is in the Times, at http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/13/technology/companies/13chip.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=print.
The Times article quotes the spokesperson for the European Union’s competition commissioner as saying that the Intel/AMD settlement will not affect the $1.5 billion fine that has been imposed on Intel for antitrust violations.
The Cuomo action apparently will continue, too, although it remains to be seen what role AMD now will play in the case.
