AGs To The Big House
Among the interesting election results yesterday were those that involved financial fraud – or, more precisely, state attorneys general with a strong record of prosecution of financial fraud who won election as governor. A notable example is Democrat Andrew Cuomo, overwhelmingly elected as governor of New York over Republican (and Tea Party fan) Carl Paladino. Then, there’s Jerry Brown, elected governor of California in a big win despite the $140 million spent by his opponent, former eBay CEO, Meg Whitman.
These results (not to mention Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal’s smashing defeat of Linda McMahon, notwithstanding the millions of dollars she spent of her World Wrestling Entertainment fortune) certainly can be attributed in large part (in our view) to each prosecutor’s well-established record battling financial fraud. Of course, it will be interesting to see if Rick Scott can actually pull off a victory in his race for governor of Florida over Florida CFO Alex Sink, despite her record, and despite his.
