Cambridge International Symposium On Economic Crime Begins September 5
This year’s Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime – the 28th – begins on September 5 in one of the oldest medieval colleges within the University of Cambridge. Ministers, legislators, senior officials, diplomats, judges, regulators, law enforcement, intelligence and security officers, financial intermediaries, bankers, professional advisers, compliance and risk officers and scholars from around the world will be speaking to about 1,000 attendees from over 90 countries.
This year, the symposium focuses on the threats confronting the financial system and in particular financial institutions from those who engage in self-dealing, corrupt practices, and fraud or who assist and facilitate the crimes of others. Among the subjects to be discussed will be “The Financial Crisis – Perspectives on Cause and Effect” and “Preventing and Controlling Abuse and Self-Dealing in the Financial Sector.”
A workshop on “Integrity and Accountability in the Financial Sector – US Style” will feature Ian Comisky (Blank, Rome); Victor Song (Chief, IRS Criminal Investigation Division); Miriam Fisher (Morgan, Lewis & Bockius); Larry A. Campagna (Chamberlain, Hrdlicka); and Larry Shtasel (Blank Rome).
There’s also a session on “Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), headed by John Drysdale (chairman, Transparency International, UK) with Richard Small (American Express); Neil Stocks (UBS); Giorgio Merlongi (Banca d’Italia); Stelios Zyglidopoulos (University of Cambridge); Helen Hatton (Jersey Financial Services Commission); Leonid Fituni (Russian Academy of Sciences); Philippe de Koster (Belgium Financial Intelligence Processing Unit CTIF-CFI); Kelly Yip (BNP Paribas); Sara Dayman (BDO Stoy Hayward); Langston Sibbles (Cayman Islands Monetary Authority); Javier Lopez Biscayart (Criminal Tax Judge, Argentina); Robert Targ (Diaz Reus & Targ); Simona Mulinari (PricewaterhouseCoopers); and Kola Awodein (Skye Bank).
