Welcome To The Party! WSJ Law Blog Highlights Major FCPA Developments

We here at the Financial Fraud Law blog have been paying a lot of attention to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Among other things, it was in our Top 10 list of Financial Fraud Law issues for 2009, we have noted a “strong upward trend in enforcement,” last week we discussed the largest single investigation and prosecution against individuals in the history of the Department of Justice’s enforcement of the FCPA, we recently pointed to a Deloitte Financial Advisory Services poll that indicated that most (72 percent) business professionals expect an increase in FCPA violations in the next two years but that one third of organizations still have no comprehensive FCPA compliance program in place, and earlier this month we even highlighted an FCPA case involving allegations against Chinese government officials in the U.S. We’re happy to note this morning that Ashby Jones and the Wall Street Journal Law blog are recognizing the importance of the FCPA, too; the WSJ blog is discussing the FCPA in a two-part post (one at the end of the day yesterday and one promised for this morning), and is referring to the statute as the “the Comeback Statute of the 2000s.”
